Team Grounded

We offer the two main services:

~

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

We are an architectural practice that specializes in sustainable design.

Our design aesthetic ties the rustic-vernacular and contemporary style in perfect balance. We build buildings rooted in sound architectural principles to reconnect with nature and celebrate the simple joys of life. Fresh air, natural light, fertile soil, love and laughter: the essentials of well-being that are too often lost in the chaos of modern living.

As a team of internationally trained architects and project managers, we are able to bring global insights and best practices to our buildings. Using the very best local materials, modern engineering, and expert craftsmanship; we endeavor to remain progressive in our thinking, authentic in our offerings, responsible in our practices, and retain the quiet luxury and joy found in the goodness of nature.

Anjali Mangalgiri

Founder & Principal Architect

Anjali Mangalgiri is the founder and principal architect at Grounded, an award-winning architecture and development firm that she founded in 2010.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi in 2002, Anjali moved to USA to do a Master in City Planning from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2005, she joined New York based architecture firm HOK, where she worked on urban planning projects before returning to university to complete a Masters in Real Estate Development at Columbia University in 2008.

In America, Anjali missed the hands-on practice of design that was directly influenced by the earth and soil- a practice that had left a deep impression on her during her architectural internship in Auroville where she built using earth, straw and other sustainable techniques.

The idea of bringing forth this tactile experience together with the broader knowledge on planning, policy and business that she had gained in the US, led Anjali to set up Grounded, her own practice in Goa in 2010.

Passionate about design and the environment, Anjali has been a TEDx speaker and a speaker at Columbia University. She is the founding advisory member for Smart Cities Advisors in New York and has served as a director on the board of CIANA, a New York based non-profit. She is a registered architect in India, a LEED Accredited Professional in the US and an IGBC Accredited Professional in India. She is recognised as an AD100 architect for her ecologically sensitive and sustainable architecture.
